Your Questions, Answered

DO I NEED TO DO ANYTHING BEFORE MY TREATMENT?

You don't need to do anything beforehand, but the following tips will help you to get the most out of your massage:

  • keep yourself hydrated​

  • don't eat a heavy meal just before your massage - it really won't be very comfortable for you

  • try to turn up relaxed (not always easy!)

  • turn up with any questions you may have - there are no stupid questions and not everyone knows what to expect, write them down if that helps

CIRCUMSTANCES THAT WOULD MEAN TREATMENT CANNOT TAKE PLACE

There are a few instances were massage cannot take place:

  • if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs

  • some common conditions also mean a massage cannot take place such as cold, flu, upset stomach

  • inappropriate behaviour before or during a treatment will not be tolerated

WHAT DOESN'T MATTER TO A MASSAGE THERAPIST DURING A TREATMENT

A few things you may worry about that massage therapists either don't notice or really don't care about:

  • whether you have shaved your legs

  • whether you have cellulite

  • what shape your body is

  • if you fall asleep and snore during your treatment (or if you wake yourself up snoring)

  • if your stomach starts to make gurgling noises during treatment (this is actually a good sign that you're feeling relaxed)

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO AFTER MY TREATMENT?

There are a few easy things you can do after your massage to make the most out of your treatment:

  • drink plenty of water to stay hydrated

  • try to relax for the rest of the day

  • avoid caffeine, alcohol and heavy meals

  • avoid hot baths

Essentially avoid anything that can place additional pressure on the body 

HOW CAN I EXPECT TO FEEL AFTER MY TREATMENT?

This will vary by person, and will also depend on how you felt before the treatment and the aftercare you acted on. The following reactions are often experienced:

  • headache

  • you may need to got to the toilet more often

  • it's possible to feel more emotional

  • you may feel nauseous, tired or sleepy

  • it's also possible to ache after a massage

You may experience some of the above or none at all, and these should only last 24 hours or so. If at any point you are concerned with how you are feeling, please seek medical advice.
